Emancipation/Redeemed

"Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a Lamb without blemish and without spot" (1 Peter 1:18-19)

Emancipation. What picture does that word bring to mind? Many think about slaves. But did you know the Cross of Jesus Christ has emancipated every believer?

In 1 Peter 1:18, the word "redeemed" is the same word used to emancipate a slave. Jesus Christ has redeemed you and set you free from your "vain conversation."

That means "empty living" - drawing your breath, drawing your salary - not getting serious about this thing called the Christian life. Oh friend, it's time for you to take hold of the exciting life to which God has called you, and the abundant life for which Jesus died to give you.

It is a thrill to serve the One who has redeemed us with the silver of His tears and the gold of His blood.

How are you serving God today? You are a minister. You are a priest. You are His hands, His feet, and His mouthpiece to a world in need of a Saviour. Ask Him to use you today. Then, step out in faith for the wonders He will perform.

"Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin" (Romans 6:6)

The word "sober" has become a one-definition word these days - to be free from alcohol.

But in Bible times, the word "sober" meant to be serious-minded about the things of God. It's half past late and satan knows it. Now, you need to know it, too.

Do you think the closer we get to Christ's return satan is just going to roll over and play dead? Absolutely not! Revelation 12:12 says that satan is going to come in "great wrath" because he knows there is but little time left. You are going to see all of the artillery of hell let loose upon the believer as Christ readies for His return.

It's time to wake up, time is passing; look up, Jesus is coming; and sober up, satan is working.

Read 1 Thessalonians 5:6-8 and 1 Peter 1:13-16, 4:7 and 5:8-11. Are you serious-minded about the things of God?
