No Accidents With God

"Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the Lord hath wrought this? In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind." (Job 12:9-10)

You may say, "God means well, and He has power and authority, but some unforeseen circumstance may derail His plans." But for God there are no unforeseen circumstances! When you start out on a walk down the block, a black cat may run in front of you; a policeman may call you aside; you may drop dead; a car may run up on the sidewalk and break your leg. You never can tell. Unforeseen circumstances are everywhere around you and me - but the Sovereign God knows nothing about unforeseen circumstances. He has seen the end from the beginning. So there can be no unforeseen circumstances.

There are no accidents in God's eyes, because God's wisdom prevents an accident. You may be driving down the highway at forty miles an hour. A tire blows and you turn over in the ditch. Somebody didn't make that tire quite right and it did not hang together. But God Almighty's wisdom never has a blowout. God Almighty knows what He's doing; He's utterly wise and there can be no accident.

Because with You there are no unforeseen circumstances, Lord, I'll leave my prayer time in complete peace. Because with You there are no accidents, I'll meet this day with bold confidence. Amen

We Can Afford to Be Calm

"For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day." (2 Timothy 1:12)

For the warmth of his heart the Christian has the love of God which is "shed abroad" by the Holy Spirit, while from his vantage point in the "heavenly places" he is able to look down calmly upon the excited happenings of men. In his flesh he may be a part of the human race, but in his spirit he is far above it all and is never at any time too much moved by what he sees.

From the Word of God he learns the direction things are going and is thus able in God to see the end from the beginning and call the things that are not as though they were.

The life of the Christian is bound up in the sovereignty of God, i.e. ... His full ability to carry out His plans to their triumphant conclusion. Since he is a part of God's eternal purpose, he knows he must win at last, and he can afford to be calm even when the battle seems to be temporarily going against him.

The world has no such "blissful center" upon which to rest and is therefore constantly shifting about, great elated today, terribly cast down tomorrow and wildly excited the next day.

Lord, thank You for the assurance that You are in control. In turbulent times, in uncertain days and in difficult circumstances, I will rest in You. Amen
